Thanks to the idea and initiative of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openworlddancefoundation.org\/index.php\/our-founders\/\">Ekaterina Shchelkanova<\/a> and the efforts of Open World Dance Foundation and its friends, the Balanchine Trust set Balanchine&#8217;s &#8220;Raymonda Variations&#8221; on students of Vaganova Academy this fall. This hallmark event occurred on November 29, 2014 at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Mikhailovsky Theatre (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mikhailovsky_Theatre\" target=\"_blank\">Mikhailovsky Theatre<\/a>. We thank The Mikhailovsky Theatre and The George Balanchine Trust for supporting our idea to bring this landmark performance to George Balanchine&#8217;s alma mater &#8211; Vaganova Academy of St. Petersburg, Russia. See&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AUZmjITyMlE\">this video<\/a>&nbsp;celebrating the event and pictures of Open World Dance Foundation&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.openworlddancefoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/balanchine.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Rehearsals&nbsp;<\/a>with Vaganova students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It began with a dream by Ekaterina. First, the performance rights had to be obtained from the Balanchine Trust. The Foundation arranged for repetiteur Darla Hoover to travel to St. Petersburg.
