On the 125th anniversary of the birth of<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sergei_Prokofiev\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" Sergei Prokofiev (opens in a new tab)\"> Sergei Prokofiev<\/a>, the composer to the Cinderella score, we offered over 200 ballet professionals, enthusiasts and students to unite and collaborate on this unique production. We wanted to leverage the performance as a means to introduce the world and culture of ballet to children and adults in all walks of life, including many underprivileged children and youth who otherwise may not have the opportunity to be exposed to this precious art form.  <br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p> <br>&#8220;The story of Cinderella captures our hopes for the orphan children and youth we work with: that through grace, hard work, and inspiration, beautiful things can happen.&#8221;<\/p><cite>-Ekaterina Shchelkanova, OWDF Founder<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"820\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openworlddancefoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.openworlddancefoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image.jpeg 820w, https:\/\/www.openworlddancefoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-300x146.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.openworlddancefoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-768x375.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining us in this mission included <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Ms. Misty Copeland (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/mistycopeland.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Misty Copeland<\/a>, Principal Dancer of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"American Ballet Theatre (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abt.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">American Ballet Theatre<\/a>, starring as the main role of Cinderella. Ms. Copeland, who often advocates for youth organizations like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgca.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"The Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of America (opens in a new tab)\">The Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of America<\/a> and MindLeaps, was drawn by Open World Dance Foundation&#8217;s efforts to educate local children and youth while celebrating the traditions of classical ballet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soon after Ms. Copeland joined our Cinderella mission, we were able to invite another star of the show: Calvin Royal III, as the Prince in our production, who was drawn by the same vision and goal we shared with Ms. Copeland. Students at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openworlddancefoundation.org\/index.php\/success-stories-from-past-summer-intensives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"2016 Summer Intensive (opens in a new tab)\">2016 Summer Intensive<\/a> rehearsed and danced alongside them. From this group of Summer Intensive students, came our advanced dancers who traveled with us to Houston for the fall. Throughout orphanages of St. Petersburg, we held a contest for the best illustration of the original <em>Cinderella&nbsp;<\/em>fairytale by Charles Perrault.
